Yunyang County is located in the northeastern part of Chongqing, the hinterland of the Three Gorges reservoir area. Yunyang County lies in a the transitional area between hills and mountains in east of the Sichuan basin, so hills and mountains cover most of the area. The highest point in Yunyang is 1,809 meters (5,935 feet), while the lowest is only 139 meters. The Yangtze River flows from west to east through the county, so valleys and steep slopes can be found in the county.

Yunyang County with over 1,400 years of history and a reputation as the 'Bright Pearl of Chongqing'. The county abounds with natural resources, beautiful landscapes and historical relics. The culture of Ba (the ancient name of Chongqing), salt culture and the culture of the Migrants from Three Gorges area can be learned in this area. The scenery here is rich. Mountain, river, valley, cave and ancient architecture can be seen here.

Zhangfei Temple:Zhangfei was the great general of Shu State during the Three States period (220A.D.-280A.D.). Together with Liu Bei and Guan Yu, these three people are sworn brothers and made the great achievement. He was famous for his bravery and loyalty.According to the records, the temple was built during the late period of Han Dynasty, and has the history more than 1,700 years.

The magnificent Zhangfei Temple with glazed tile and red walls is situated on the Flying Phoenix Hill on the southern bank of the Yangtze river. It was moved 20 miles westward from the original place because of the water storage of the Three Gorges Dam Project. The new temple largely remains true to the original. Over 4,500 cultural relics, 127 ancient trees, 193 wood carvings and 178 steles were saved beforehand the construction of the project.

Inside the Zhangfei Temple, there is a statue of Zhangfei and hundreds of valuable cultural relics, including the stone carvings, wooden carving as well as the paintings and calligraphies. Among the seven main buildings, there two were built to memorize the great Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu, who once lived here for two years. This makes the complex a rare temple to memorize the civil and military prominence at the same time.

Moreover, the serial bells of Western Zhou Dynasty, bronze sword of Eastern Zhou in the hall are most interesting. Exhibition of pottery, bronze, porcelain and jade carvings all very worth appreciating.
